Data protection for Shopify and WordPress sites
Shopify and WordPress often load more trackers than the operator realises - via themes, apps and plugins. What you need to know to stay clean.
Data protection with Shopify
Shopify shops often load trackers such as Meta Pixel, TikTok or Klaviyo before consent has been given — often via apps that the shop owner is not aware of.
The tricky thing is that many tracking apps are deeply integrated into the checkout process and fire regardless of whether a banner is displayed. A banner that merely ‘displays’ rather than blocking is not enough here.
Data protection with WordPress
In WordPress, plugins and themes are the biggest source of data privacy concerns: Google Fonts, embedded videos, analytics and marketing plugins often load external resources without consent.
Every additional plugin may introduce new trackers. Without regular checks, the privacy policy gradually becomes out of date.
This applies to both systems
Whether it’s Shopify or WordPress, trackers must be blocked before consent is given, and the privacy policy must reflect reality.
BlueOcean works on any website — not just WordPress or Shopify. The banner loads first, the privacy policy is automatically kept up to date, and a scan shows you the real situation.

FAQ
Is Shopify's own cookie banner enough?
Often not. Many tracking apps run independently of the standard banner. The key point is that trackers must be technically blocked before consent is given.
Are Google Fonts a problem in WordPress?
Yes, if they are loaded from Google’s servers — this involves transmitting the visitor’s IP address. Embedding them locally or blocking them before consent is given resolves this.
Does BlueOcean work with every CMS?
Yes. BlueOcean works on any website via a snippet — whether it’s Shopify, WordPress, Webflow or a custom-built site.
